Neighborhood Purpose Grants
Each year the council sets aside part of its city allocation for grants to local nonprofits and public schools. A Neighborhood Purpose Grant (NPG) must provide a demonstrable benefit to the community.
What we fund
Projects should build community, enhance our neighborhoods, and be open and free to the public. Eligible categories include:
- The arts
- Beautification
- Community support
- Education
- Community improvements
How applications are evaluated
- A realistic budget with supporting documentation
- The organization’s capability to complete the project
- A detailed, specific and feasible work plan
- Community support and benefit to stakeholders
- A community-building implementation process
- Overall credibility, capability, feasibility and importance of the project
What to submit
Nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status
- Completed NPG application
- Project budget
- IRS letter of determination
Public schools
- Completed NPG application
- Project budget
- Letter of approval from the principal on official school letterhead
After the project
Grant recipients must submit a Project Completion Report when the project concludes.
Apply at least 90 days ahead
Your application must be submitted at least 90 days before your event, or we may not be able to provide funding. Applications go to the Finance Committee first, then to the board for a vote, then to the City Clerk for approval.
Need a letter of support instead?
Community organizations can ask the board for a letter of support for a project, permit or grant application.

The Finance Committee meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM and reviews every grant and funding request.
