Whether you have ten minutes a month or ten hours, there is a way to shape what happens in the neighborhood. Start with whatever feels right.
Speak up
Every agenda item is open for public comment, and there is a general comment period for anything else. Raise your hand in Zoom or press *9 on the phone. Two minutes is plenty to be heard.
How public comment worksJoin a committee
Committees do the council’s hands-on work: reviewing development projects, planning outreach, working with LAPD and LAFD, supporting youth and small businesses. Any stakeholder can join.

Elected seats (Chair, Co-Chair and six area representatives) are filled in city-run elections. Appointed seats (four at-large representatives, Secretary, Treasurer and Media Coordinator) are filled by application and a board vote. Board members serve two-year terms.
Apply for a grant
Nonprofits and public schools within our boundaries can apply for Neighborhood Purpose Grants for arts, beautification, education and community projects. Apply at least 90 days before your event.

Help at outreach tables, cleanups and community events, or serve as the council’s liaison to a city department: animal services, homelessness, public works, purposeful aging, resilience, film and more.

Who counts as a stakeholder?
Anyone who lives, works or owns real property within the council boundaries, and anyone who affirms a substantial and ongoing participation within the boundaries through a community organization such as a school, nonprofit or house of worship. You must be at least 16 to vote in council elections. There is no fee and no membership card. If you are here, you belong.
