Our commitment

As part of the City of Los Angeles, a covered entity under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we do not discriminate on the basis of disability. Our goal is for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That includes WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice adopted for state and local government websites. We test the site with automated tools and by hand, but no testing catches everything. This statement describes our work and does not claim certification. If something does not work for you, please tell us.

What we have done

• Every page has a logical heading structure, a "skip to main content" link and clearly labeled landmarks for screen readers.
• The site is built to work with a keyboard alone. A visible focus indicator shows where you are, and the menu closes when focus moves past it so it does not cover the page.
• We check text and background colors against a 4.5:1 contrast ratio, and form field borders against 3:1. We do not use color alone to convey information.
• Every meaningful image has a text description.
• The layout is designed to adapt to narrow screens down to 320 pixels wide and to text enlarged to 200 percent.
• Animations are minimal and are turned off for visitors who have set a "reduce motion" preference.
• Forms have visible labels and instructions. Drop-down menus are standard browser controls, so they work with screen readers and phone pickers. Error messages are announced to assistive technology.
• Buttons and links are designed to be large enough to tap easily.
• Pages have unique titles, and links describe where they go.

Known limitations

Many meeting agendas, minutes and reports are PDF documents, some created before this website. Older PDFs may not be fully accessible to screen readers. If you have trouble with any document, contact us and we will provide the information in an alternative format.

Community event flyers on the News page are posted as images, and their text description gives only the event title. Event details shown only inside a flyer image, such as the date, time or place, may not be available to screen reader users. When we post a flyer, we aim to provide those details as text as well. If you cannot read a flyer, contact us and we will send you the details.

Some links lead to third-party websites such as Zoom, Google Forms, Mailchimp and city and county agencies, whose accessibility we do not control.

Meeting accommodations

As a covered entity under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the City of Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of disability and, upon request, will provide reasonable accommodation to ensure equal access to its programs, services and activities. Sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids and services may be provided upon request.
